Description

Glazed ceramic figurine of fisherman, fishing pole wrapped separately. He is caring a fish.

Context

These figures come from a factory kiln in Shiwan, Guangdong. The mud men were made popular during the Tang dynasty. Initially, the figures were all handmade and were used to keep the economy afloat during dry seasons. Modern mud men are now made from moulds.
