Description

Ming Dynasty folding fan with scenery of a holy mountain with many temples, trees, and statues hand painted with real gold powder paint. Fan measures 20" wide by 11" high and it's mounted in a frame of bamboo. The fan wood contains carvigns of calligraphy depictions of 'longevity' in 100 styles.

Context

Painted Fans in China were popularized in the Song dynasty, it was favored by southern Song academic painters. They were often decorated with landscapes, and sometimes poetry.
