Nephrite jade Stylized Archaic Qilin with Bas Relief of Masks and Horses: black color in manner of Han Dynasty -- Chinese nephrite jade carving of a stylized archaic Qilin with bas relief of masks and horses in the manner of the Han dynasty, black color and measuring 2-1/4" long, 1-3/4" high and 7/8" thick.

Context

Qilin are mythical creatures with scales along their bodies and hrons like an ox. Each qilin was unique, and could be many different colors. Their appearance meant that a birth or death was imminent.
