Name/Title
Silver (White Metal Alloy) Miao CrownDescription
This beehive shaped crown is from a Miao clan nicknamed "Green Shiny Cloth Miao" based inTian Tan Village near the township of Chong An Jiang, Huangping County, Guizhou Province, China. The crown is worn at festivals by young unmarried women and at their wedding. Hundreds of small flower-like shapes and butterflies are cut, incised with a blunt tool and attached to tiny wires that hold the shapes to the base. They jiggle when one walks to further enhance the sparkling effect. Other light-weight silver necklaces and belts are worn also for festivals and important events. This clan is one of the most elegant of all the Miao clans, equal in beauty to those of Shidong, Wenxiang and Dafang.Acquisition
