Description

A tray of bee honeycombs. Expanded Description: Photo taken from the bottom of a demonstration hive. The round black objects arranged in rows on the wire grid are the heads of drone bees. The drones were killed by the workers near the end of 1935 and their bodies pulled through the Queen excluder except their heads which were too large to be pulled between the wires of the grid. The drone heads were fastened down with beeswax and nearly closed the only access to the hive.
