The image depicts a barren landscape featuring a large, partially destroyed, metallic structure with jagged edges, standing prominently on a cracked, dried surface under a clear blue sky. In the background, a long line of evenly spaced wooden posts stretches across the vast, arid expanse towards a distant mountain range.

General Notes

Note

Expanded Wall Label: Jennifer Steensma Hoag has been photographing land sites since 1993. Her images focus on locations that are under construction, or in the process of being altered. Hoag omits contextual information in her images, however, leading viewers to believe they are viewing documents of land art or permanent installations. The result is an ambiguous landscape, without any clear context, that demonstrates a photograph's ability to both inform and deceive.
