The image captures an expansive barren landscape under a vivid blue sky, where a singular fluffy white cloud hovers above a flat, barren expanse of rocky terrain, conveying a sense of isolation and vastness. A horizontal black strip cuts across the middle of the image, offering stark contrast against the earthy tones.

General Notes

Note

Expanded Wall Label: Jennifer Steensma Hoag has been photographing land sites since 1993. Her images focus on locations that are under construction, or in the process of being altered. Hoag omits contextual information in her images, however, leading viewers to believe they are viewing documents of land art or permanent installations. The result is an ambiguous landscape, without any clear context, that demonstrates a photograph's ability to both inform and deceive.
