The image depicts an abstract painting with a complex blend of colors, including blue, yellow, green, and brown. These colors are layered and splattered across the canvas, creating a textured appearance. Various shades and patches of darker tones punctuate the composition, which appears to be a mix of both organic shapes and patterns.

General Notes

Note

Expanded Wall Label: This piece was part of a 2011 solo exhibition by Bruce Herman in the Center Art Gallery entitled, Presence/Absence – New Work by Bruce Herman. Having worked in a religious and figurative tradition for years, Herman’s style started to evolve through a creation-based exploration of the visual experience. Coupled with an interest in the rugged landscape around his Cape Ann, Massachusetts home, he began a new series of paintings. In the process, he employed a vigorous additive and subtractive process with the paintings, as he drew on patterns found in nature as well as human culture. The resulting works reflect an attention to texture, color and form that seek to record the presence of the landscape and also the great absence of things passing.
