My Rock My Fortress

The image depicts an abstract landscape with earthy tones, featuring layers of textured patterns in shades of brown, orange, and beige, intersected by dark, bold lines, creating an impression of horizons and distant terrains with unusual, decorative script-like markings across the middle section, evoking a sense of mystery.

General Notes

Note

Expanded Wall Label: This Israeli desert landscape suggests forms along the Dead Sea coast with its rich sienna colors and natural geological formations. The Hebrew text embedded in the landscape is from Psalms 71:3, "thou art the rock of my fortress." A collagraph is an intaglio printing process, which used a built-up collaged plate made from a great variety of materials (strips of fabric, thread, aluminum foils, plants, marble dust, acrylic modeling paste) that are glued onto the surface of the masonite or cardboard. The surface is then painted or inked and run through an etching press at several thousand pounds of pressure, thereby transferring the paint and the texture to the surface of the paper. The process is completely repeated to create another print in the edition.
