Note
Sometimes, I hunger
because I do not eat what is offered.
Some of why I lack
is because I resist the gift being given.
I lift my eyes up
only to the hills I choose,
I want to choose
where my help comes from.
May my particularities
and my preferences
never cut me off
from the Life available to me.
Forgive me for choosing “my way.”
It seemed right
but I fear it is
leading me towards death.
Teach me to feed on
what You prepare for me.
Teach me to receive
what You generously give.
May the very depth and intensity
of my own grief
sever the ties that bind me
to my preferences and privilege.
May my time in The Low
clear the debris
of attachment and ego
so that I can be cared for.
