Verne Hohl, "Peterson Mill", no date - Oil painting on canvas, framed
Verne Hohl was a commercial artist and member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Holland, Michigan before he was called to the priesthood in 1958. By 1960 he became the rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Saugatuck, Michigan, where he remained until his retirement in 1977. Verne continued to paint through his life and had numerous exhibits. He also published a description of the stained glass windows at All Saints Church.
The mill itself was built in Gary, Indiana and assembled at its present location in Saugatuck around 1960. The back part of the building is a portion of the Brittain House, which once stood at the corer of Mason and Griffith streets in Saugatuck. The pond and creek were created as a site for the mill.Collection
