Matt Balmer standing next to a cylindrical tank that was discovered when excavators were improving Center Street, circa 2006. A rectangular hole has been cut in the tank. Behind Mayor Balmer is the Main St. intersection with Beery field at the right.
This image was featured as History Mystery #97 with the text: Excavation for the new and improved Center Street in Douglas uncovered this historical artifact. Mayor Matt Balmer (pictured) reported that it probably was at one time a heating fuel or gasoline storage tank. Who owned it and the age remains a mystery.
