Description

Original commercial art drawing for a publication on Crescent #100 illustration board. Illustration is of a shirtless man with sledgehammer and gears (to represent labor) shaking hands with a man in a suit and glasses with a blueprint, microscope and laboratory flasks (to represent science) shaking hands over a circular map of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky. Above the men is a banner that reads "This is the Midwest". Below the men is an atomic symbol with the word "MORT" penciled on either side. Below the atomic symbol is a skyline showing farmland, industry, skyscrapers, trucks, trains, masted ships and more smoking, industrial buildings. Scattered around the edges of the illustration are penciled production notations. The illustration is dotted with "white out" masking paint and yellowed adhesive residues where typeset text has once been attached.
