The flaking, incomplete newspaper on board 1 includes this text:

"The Cumber... is one of the finest hospital we ... in its appearance and conveniences. The Christian commission have a nice chapel, to which is attached a reading and writing room, the post-office of the hospital. I believe the commission also built the ladies diet kitchen , where I saw dinner issued to 500 on the [low diet] list. ... December 1964. The grounds are beautified with flowers and grass.
