In 1995, the Society undertook the task of documenting the built environment of the City of Saugatuck, Douglas and the immediate surrounding area in order to better understand their historical evolution--not just in terms of the architecture, but what it says of the people who live and work there. The survey is totally independent of and has not connection with any governmental body or function. Its purpose is solely to enrich our understanding the heritage of the area.
