The pages are filled with carefully written information about the location of wrecks, shoals, buoys, harbors, ports, lights and navigation.

Context

These notes were recorded when Claude Ellis, a 30-year-old Great Lakes mariner, was working his way up the ladder to being a captain. When he retired, his final command was the steamer North America.
