2023.50.77Scope and Content
Simulated statement of the Bank of Singapore April 16th 1839Context
This accounting describing the "affairs and condition" of the Bank of Singapore as of April 16, 1839 was found in the basement of the old Fruit Growers State Bank (a predecessor the Shoreline Bank) in the 1930s. A photograph of the yellowed paper will be part of this summer's exhibit. [Which exhibit is not indicated, nor the year but presumed to be "Lost and Found: Ghost Towns of the Saugatuck Area" in 2000]
The Bank of Singapore, like many "wildcat" banks of this era, had notoriously dubious accounting.Collection
