The Post Offices of Allegan County, MichiganEntry/Object ID
2019.35.81Description
This book tells the story of the post offices that served 80 different communities in allegan County. The first two post offices were established in 1833, and have been serving their communities for about 185 years. In the early 1900's there were more than 65 post offices in operation at the same time, but many of them closed when the rural delivery of mail began. This book also documents the name changes and spelling variations that took place for a number of the communities. This book lists the post offices names, dates of operation, locations, and the postmasters who were in charge. Today there are 16 regular post offices that serve the residents of Allegan County.
