Description

Black ink drawing of a fishing tug enhanced with watercolors. Item is signed Kushel 83 on the lower right cover. The artwork is sandwiched in a protective bundle including a beige mat, cardboard backing and clear plastic wrapper. Sticker on the back of the package indicates it is a "original art work, one of a kind, by Leo Kushel" The image is of the bow of a well-worn fishing tug that is either beached or floating very high in the water since a great deal of the red hull is visible. The artist used paint to create reflections in the water and misty atmosphere in the sky. Highlights are rendered with scratches to reveal the bright, white paper. Leo Kuschel has been painting professionally for over sixty-years. He has been collected by celebrities including Vincent Price and done commissions for former President George H.W.Bush. Kuschel embodies the spirit of the Great Lakes' rich nautical history. His distinct style, combining elements of realism and the abstract, had made him Detroit's Maritime Master. Specific information is located in Mr. Kuschel's profile

The common masking tape that secures the clear plastic wrapper is yellowing and has been reinforced with "magic" tape. The sheet of cardboard is still serving valiantly to protect the artwork.
