Black Ash basket handmade by Native American artist Edmund White Pigeon.
The basket has a rectangular base formed by a simple weave of approximately one-inch wide strips that are bent to form the vertical members of the baskets. The horizontal strips on the sides of the basket are half as wide as the verticals. The back of the basket is flat with two gaps for threading through a strap or belt. The sides of the basket curve outward before returning to the rectangular, reinforced top rim of the basket. The front of the basket also curves outward except at the center location of the locking loop. The flat, rectangular lid of the basket has a T-shaped toggle to hold the basket shut and a square 3x3 opening. Note the careful craftsmanship of the single row of narrow wood just inside of the lid's reinforced edge and the tapering of the lid's wide strips as they meet the edge.Collection
