These documents contain handwritten notes and photocopies of documents pertaining to the early settlers of the Saugatuck-Douglas area. Prominent figures such as William Gay Butler and O.R Johnson are mentioned. Lorenz did a lot of research on the early settlers and gathered what information he could on them. This includes birth and death records, marriage licenses, land purchases, etc. There is one box of these documents that contain copies of the diaries of Reverend George N. Smith and Alvira Powers Smith. The remaining boxes contain individual folders on each person that Lorenz research, which are organized alphabetically. The amount of information for each person varies, but typically contains a short biography and maybe a photo if there was one available.
