Documents pertaining to the history of businesses in the Saugatuck-Douglas area. There are records of some of the businesses from the founding of the town and through several deacades. This includes sawmills, lumberyards, shipyards, blacksmiths, etc. The information is in handwritten notes or photocopies made from books and articles. There are specific businesses, but also lists of local businesses which are arranged by year. This series is included in box 20 in a hanging folder titled "Early Businesses" and is in 19 folders.Collection

Archivist's Notes: While there are only 19 folders, these documents were distinct enough to need their own series. At a future date, when there are more supplies (flip top boxes) it would be a good idea to place these documents in their own box and mark the new location. At the time this processing was happening, we did not have enough boxes to seperate all of the series so this one ended up in box 20 with several other items. But, everything is in hanging folders which are clearly labeled.

Overall Condition
GoodNotes
The overall condition is good, although the folders are showing more wear than the documents. The writing on the tabs has become smudged and the top tabs of the folders have been bent several times. This is most likely the result of the several moves that the collection went through. The photocopies and notes are in good condition too. There is some minor deterioration where the letters have faded on several of the documents, but not enough to make them illegible.Relationships
