Typewritten transcriptions from the Lakeshore Commercial, which is known as the Commercial Record today. The documents contain transcriptions of excerpts from the Lakeshore Commercial from the years 1868-1897. Each excerpt is seperated by month and year which is usually noted at the top of the page. The transcriptions vary in length, but are never longer than a few sentences. There are no long articles, which may indicate that these are simply titles from articles or possibly ads from the paper. Some of the transcriptions contain information on people in the town or specific events. While the majority of the documents are typewritten transcriptions, there is one original document. It is a supplement to the November 30th 1883 Lakeshore Commercial edition. This supplement is the only original document. These notes began when the paper was still the Saugatuck Commercial and continued into its name change to the Lakeshore Commercial. They are arranged chronologically by year.

Archivist's Notes: The typewritten notes were made on paper which shows deterioration. The paper is now brown and the edges tend to tear easily. It would be best to handle these documents carefully, including the 1883 supplement. The supplement is actually in better condition than the typed notes, but has been placed in an archival sleeve to protect it from the other documents.

While the papers aren't falling apart, they aren't in the best condition. The typewritten transcriptions were typed onto a type of paper which shows a moderate amount of deterioration. This is most likely due to age and the type of paper used. The paper is now brown and will most likely continue to deteriorate if they are exposed to strong lights for long periods of time. The edges also tend to tear easily. As a result, it would be best to handle these items with care. The 1883 supplement is in the best condition, althuogh it does show some deterioration from age too. The paper has begun to brown and the letters have faded slightly. It is still legible and has been placed in an archival sleeve to prevent further deterioration.Relationships
