Includes a list of hotels and tourist homes also a sailing schedule from Chicago. Maps include the Indiana Trans. Co.'s route across Lake Michigan and a detail map of Saugatuck-Douglas plus general information about traveling by steamship.Context
The brochure promoted the area for boating, bathing (swimming and lounging at the beach), canoeing, fishing, duck hunting, dancing at the Big Pavilion, fruit farms, camping, automobiling and renting cottages. Mentions James Fenimore Cooper's Oak Openings, likens the view of Park St. from across the river to Switzerland's lakes and hills, claims Kalamazoo is a hyphenated cognomen of "Kahla" the name of Indian maiden and "Mahzoo" the name of her intrepid lover, and that lost Singapore's population was once 2,000.Collection
