Description

Tourist booklet written by Charlotte Ellis Macdonald with a melodramatic story of a couple visiting the area for the first time and ads from local tourist establishments. Charlotte Macdonald was the publisher of Summer Resort Souvenir Books. Another copy of this booklet is at 2011.34. 2021.88.24 contains negatives that includes a copy of the shop shown on in book "Where Dick Bought the Ring". Circa 1909 to 1913

Context

Booklet is loaded with ads from local tourist-trade businesses and Simonson postcard images. "Then there was a Mrs. McDonald in Douglas, mother of Claude and sister-in-law of Mrs. McDonald of the funeral home. She wrote short novelettes that were printed in folders advertising Saugatuck as a resort. They were all romantic in theme." -Jeanette Barr of Port Washington, Wisconsin, the daughter of Dr. R. J. Walker, in a 1976 letter to Kit Lane reprinted in SDHS newsletter insert pg 284.
