Description

Elaborate certificate printed on white, coated paper with gold, green and red ink for the 1st Congregational Church. The pre-prepinted form has a blank line for adding the name of the recipient. The entire document reads: "This certified that [blank] is a member of the Sunday School connected with the First Congregational Church, Saugatuck , Michigan. Peace on Earth: Good will to men. Signed V. W. Johnson, Secy., F. B. Wallin, Supt., Christmas Eve 1870." The ornate border includes architectural and ivy leaf motifs, an image of the bible and other Christian symbols, and the text "Search the Scriptures" and "God is Love"
