Studio portrait of Hubert Engle. The image is in black and white and shows him seated in the Appleyard Studio in South Haven, MI. The photo is encased in a tri-fold frame of a dark green color with an embossed, dotted design which creates a border for the front fold of the frame. "Appleyard Studio South Haven, Michigan" is printed underneath the image. The only other writing on the frame is in the top right corner of the front fold, it reads: "Hubert Engle, South Haven, Foster side wife Margaret." Engle was one of the architects for Saugatuck's Big Pavilion and he also helped to manage the Pavilion for a short while alongside David Reed. He also worked on the design of another, similar, pavilion that was built in Chicago. It is unknown when this photo was taken.Photograph Details

FairNotes
The photo is in overall, great condition. The image itself shows very little deterioration, while the frame does show a minimal amount of damage. This damage is present as red stains that are most likely paint, which appears on the right side of the inner frame. The paint did not get on the image and is only present on the frame. The frame itself shows some slight tearing at the corners, which is most likely due to storage conditions and frequent handling. The color of the frame has darkened and shows some small dark smudges across its surface, most likely from handling.Relationships
