Scope and Content

Eight-page color laser-print of an opinion piece posted on the "The Diplomat" website on 28 August, 2024. The essay explores how the fate and meaning of Michigan's Singapore is relevant, or not, to the Republic of Singapore in Asia.

Context

After the Republic of Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong mentioned Michigan's Singapore in a 2024 speech, awareness and curiosity about the "ghost town" has grown in the minds of the Republic of Singapore's people. After multiple visits to the area, and to the SDHC archives, anthropologist Joshua Babcock authored this essay.
