Oil painting of a farm scene with small building, barn and silo at left, yard with chickens, coop and cows at center and trees at right. The sky is rendered with scrubby patches of greys and blues. The painting is framed with an Baroque-style ornamental frame with molded motifs and a narrow mat (passe-partout). At acquisition, the frame included a down light which has been removed. The bracket for the lamp remains on the back of the frame.
from the motifs of the Rococo period, the ornamentation of the frame situates its organic curvature and undulating swirls
The painting may depict the John Scarlett farm, south of Douglas on 130th. Or scarlet may simply refer to red paint on the barn.
