2021.81.10Description
Photo of a double-masted schooner with sails aloft, but slack. A human figure can been seen in the stern of the craft, bent over. The conditions are calm, the water smooth, yet a smaller sailboat is managing to sail into the frame on the right.
A photocopy of information from two unknown sources are about the Schooner Mary Ludwig, built near South Haven and, at times, owned by C. P. Ludwig, is taped to the back of the photo.

Note
"The schooner Mary Ludwig, bound from Muskegon to St. Joseph, tried in vain to enter Holland harbor Tuesday morning. An east wind kept her out, and with a storm approaching she was in a dangerous predicament. The Holland Coast Guard saw the dilemma and went out to the aid with a power boat. In this way the schooner was soon resting in safe harbor." -- Holland City News/The Holland Sentinel, Thursday, Nov. 2, 1916Create Date
