Description

Two photos of the Reed's Livery property paired with two newspaper clippings about the property. One photo shows the livery in its heyday, the other as a boarded-up building in need of renovation. The photo are behind a burgundy red mat with the photocopies glued to the mat's surface and enclosed by a .75" oak frame.

Context

The first clipping is "Old mule barn holds fond memories for local resident" in which Jean Simonson recounts the many ways the building has served (livery stable, cider mill, roller skate factory, net shed, Meldrum's Trucking Co., Eskimo Pie plant, American Twisting Co. [an early location], Bob Crawford's Motor Sales, Village service garage, police headquarters, and fire station in an addition on the building's north end), how he used to shoot English Sparrows for the two-cents-a-head bounty, and a meal at his aunt Josie Reed, uncle Roger Reed and cousin Natalie Reed's apartment on the 2nd floor. The second clipping is titled "Old Livery to be renovated" with details about how in Sept. 1990 Ellen Heyer purchased the building and architect Dick Rudich renovated the inside. The article also reports that Winona Knits, located on the Culver St. entrance will open on Mother's Day, the two apartments and three offices on the 2nd floor have been leased, and a French restaurant Toulouse will open in the summer.
