Farmhouse ledger 1915-1929

Scope and Content

A narrow ledger with "Mrs. O.H. Barr" [Olga Helene (Schmidt) Barr (1878-1977)] hand written and "Order Book" printed on the pale green, fabric-covered cover. The book records purchases, expenses, sales of farm products, menus, guest names and addresses in the mid-1920s.

Context

The Barr family operated a farm and a tourist home. The first page in the ledger is dated 1915 and logs the sale of butter and eggs. Other pages note the 1929 rent for the farm house or lists 1915 to 1918 weekly milk sales to Vos, Palzer, Bartlett, Houk, Crofart and other. Sales of farm products like calves, piglets, carrots, turnips are also recorded. Other notes include costs for wallpaper, farmhand wages, and breeding records.
