According to Mr. Weed, the 3 miles of Blue Star Highway, that runs from M-89 to Wiley Road used to be called Chase Road. The road was named after brother James and Ben Chase who settled and farmed the land in the 1860s.
Article includes descriptions of strawberry, peach and oat/corn/hay farming including the machinery, threshing and harvesting, and transporting crops to Pier Cove or the Red Dock in Douglas.
The last section of part 1 recounts catching frogs in Pine Ridge Pond with neighbor Hazel Norberg, snatching water snakes with Charlie Link and introduced bass nipping William Link's toes.
Part 2 covers a bicycle crash, doing homework by kerosene lantern light, county cooking, use of the telephone, outdoor plumbing (outhouses), father's attitude toward drinking and smoking and Republicanism.Collection
