"Miinaande Waabigone" (Purple Flower)
Flat beadwork piece in a Anishinaabe woodland motif of burgundy, yellow and orange flowers bracketing a larger purple blossom. The back of the piece is covered in white leather.Context
This piece was purchased by Maryjo Lemanski when it was on display at the 2021 SDHC "Art of the People" exhibit.
After the exhibition, the artist converted the beading into a necklace by adding the purple, white and black beaded straps and a gold-tone magnetic closure in an example of an Indigenous artist honoring traditional techniques and creating work to suit the world they live in today.Collection
