August 1992 issue of "Country Living Magazine" with article about Saugatuck residences including the log cabin at 11 Lakeshore Drive in Saugatuck.Context
The cabin, called "Orchard Cabin," was built by William H. Simpson. He was an executive with the Santa Fe Railroad. It was constructed in 1900 to house his extensive collection of Navajo artifacts gathered during frequent travels to the Southwest. He loved the lobby of the Grand Canyon Hotel and copied this design for his Saugatuck summer home. Through 1992 the generations to follow had kept the original furnishings that were in the cabin almost 100 years ago.Collection
