Dr. Wright was a civil war physician who, widowed, moved to Saugatuck with his foster daughter Harriet Moffat in 1870. His sister Jessie and her husband Harvey House has moved to Saugatuck in 1967. Harriet Moffat married Charles Bird of Saugatuck in 1876. Their daughter Elita Bird Graves had the journal until her death in 1991. She passed the journals on to her daughters Margaret Van Houtte and Connie Deam who then passed the journals to Katherine House Allen.
All of the journal entries are from 1851-1854, before Dr. Wright came to Saugatuck, but are a harrowing about of life then.Cataloged By
