Wooden, brisé folding, handheld fan painted with red and green floral motif and imprinted with "Saugatuck, Mich." A red stamp on back of fan reads "Made in Austria." The wood is smooth, unvarnished and has no decorative piercing beyond the slits required to tread a beige tape that holds the fan together. The floral decoration, possibly a poppy, appears to be hand painted with the brush loaded with two colors of paint in the speedy tole painting style. The fan's pivot is a metal brad that includes a loop for hanging.Context
