Scope and Content

PDF of "Fever of Development, Frontier of Recovery: Securing the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Region" July 2007 by the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance and the Michigan Land Use Institute. The 20-page white paper document summarizes this history of Aubrey McClendon's purchase of the North Denison property in 2006, outlines strategies to combat development of the land, and discusses local land development issues. PDF version of an untitled Powerpoint presentation by "JRR" Landscape Architecture/Planning/Urban Design/Civil Engineering/Environmental Science for the Saugatuck Planning Commission Meeting, May 24, 2007 that analyzes the landscape, ecology, and flora and fauna of the South Denison property. The presentation includes site and topographic maps, species lists and a table about the plants and animals of greatest danger if the land is developed.

Context

These document informed the community and/or shaped public opinion about development or preservation of the Denison properties -- two large parcels of lakeshore north and south of the Kalamazoo River. The south parcel was purchased and preserved at the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area. The north parcel, as of 2022, is still tangled in litigation.
