Fanciful map illustration of a bird's-eye view of downtown Saugatuck created by Martha Severt. The 1984 copyright for the map is held by the Saugatuck Drug Store who sold copies of the map.
The map depicts the Keewatin, the Queen of Saugatuck and the City of Douglas tour boats, churches, the American Twisting company, the Rich's Pie factory offices (Fruit Exchange) and very detailed drawing of the buildings between Holland Street and the river and from Goshorn Lake to Kalamazoo Lake.
According to Stacey Christenson Aldrich in 2024, "I have the original painting at home. I’ll look at the date when I get back. My father owned the drugstore and commissioned Martha Severt? to paint it and he made posters to sell in the store. I think they sold for $2.50."Context
The highly detailed map illustrates Saugatuck's appeal in the mid-1980sCollection
