Description

Wood strip and a faded-pink fiberboard barrel. The lightweight barrel has a hinged lid that is stenciled with the text "B.A. Railton Co. Value Blend Coffee 100 LBS. Chicago - Milwaukee" Stenciled on the side of the barrel is the text "Mrs. W.H. Allen, Tourist Home, Saugatuck Mich."

Context

In 1901, William and Flora Allen bought the collection of buildings that became the Tourist Home resort. In 1933, the hotel changed its name to the Mount Baldhead Hotel. B.A. Railton Co. was a coffee wholesaler that served hotels. In 1985, B.A. Railton Co., a (then) Northlake-based food distribution firm was acquired by Sysco Corp.
