Martha Deam Severt The Ferry Store c. 1940 | watercolor Notes: Martha Deam Severt studied art at Ox-Bow and the University of Pennsylvania as well as in many countries of the Orient and Southeast Asia where she traveled in her work with the U.S. government. She has had one-man shows in Japan, Taiwan, Burma, Malaysia and Singapore. She taught painting during the winter at the Deland Museum in Florida. (From Painting the Town, Kit Lane) This painting was a gift from a young Martha to Jean Palmer, who owned the Ferry Store. For many years it was displayed in the Mary Kay cottage at Ox-Bow where Mrs. Palmer spent her summers. Collection: Saugatuck Douglas Historical Society Gift of: Chris Spencer and Charles Aschbrenner
