from “Michigan Dunes,” August 2018 at the OSH Bertrand D. Phillips born 1938 Untitled undated | mixed media It is our belief that this work was done by Phillips. He was born in Chicago. His parents sent him to the junior school at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he went on to be a teacher. He received a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University. Phillips has said that his work “is deeply related to the Black Culture…[but]…you don’t have to be Black to understand my art!” adapted from an article in the Chicago Tribune, July 23, 1985.
