From "Off the Record" — Jack Janis had just received the local "Distinguished Service Award" for 1949, presented by Thomas, charter president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, at the American Legion Hall, on July 25, 1949. Mr. Janis was recognized for his volunteer work in organizing the village recreation program, which included the Oval Frolics, the Arts Week, the Venetian Night, the Village Christmas Party, Halloween night for kids, and so forth. Janis was the owner of the Twin Gables Hotel and had moved to Saugatuck in 1945.
