Scope and Content

A carefully compiled scrapbook includes minutes from planning meetings along with press clippings and flyers. A second envelope contains newspaper clippings from 1996 to 2006. Hundreds of snapshots plus poster, float drawings, feathered mask and Egyptian papyrus.

Context

The New Orleans-style Douglas Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) parade and associated celebrations were a community high-point event in the bleak late winter. A Jan. 4, 2001 Commercial Record clipping names The Mystik Krewe of the Kalamazoo (Julie Abel, Tarue Pullen, Jacqueline Carey, Jean Crawford, Corky Oja, Sondra Stevenson and Cheri Miller) as the originators of the celebration.
