Pine board that is 19.5 inches long and 3.9 inches wide. The front of the board has no decoration other than the words, "Saugatuck LBR. & C. Co. Saugatuck-MI" stenciled on the front in black paint. The back of the piece has a a reddish-brown paint covering it.Context
This board was most likely a sign for either the Wilson's Lumber and Coal Company, which was located at the end of Butler St. North, or the Hirner's Lumber Company, which was at the end of Butler St. The age of the board is unknown.Collection

There is very little to no deterioration to the board. The painted lettering does show some fading, but not enough to make it illegible.On the back, there are two drill holes visible in the upper center and upper right corner. This is most likely from the board having been nailed to a post or wall at some point. There is also a shallow cut in the surface of the front of the piece. This is most likely from a knife, but how it got there is unknown.Relationships
