Allegan Journal 3 Aug 1878 - 12-page transcript with blurry photocopies of source material. Extensive and glowing accounts of economic activity and lists of prominent settlers, farmers, shippers, government, clergy and business leaders. 2. "Meeting with such good success while canvassing..." by editor of Holland Gazetteer, 20 May 1871 - production statistics for Stockbridge & Johnson mill, Wilson & Dickey mill, Henry Moore mill; Densmore & Barber stave factory, Gerber's tannery, Morrison's tannery, Heath gristmill, Cook's dock, ships Helen Mar, Aunt Betsy, Ira Chaffee, Sky Lark; fine dwellings and churches including two Union school houses. 3. "This village, including Douglas and Singapore, has give dry-goods stores, two drug-stores..." E.W. Perry, editor Lake Shore Commercial 10 June 1871 - lists numbers of various businesses, Douglas' business listed on page 2/ 4. "This is an old village and came into prominence through the lumber interest..." E.W. Perry, editor Lake Shore Commercial 5 Aug 1871 - mentions ship building, fruit growing, Reverend Mr. Hamilton starting a nursery, Kleeman's grape cultivation, saw and shingle mills, barrel factory, propeller-ship Chaffee. 5.
