Two red buildings surrounded by green foliage and a canoe. The foreground is a sandy plain with tufts of grass and a pathway. The front of the painting has a "58" by the signature, suggesting the painting was executed in 1958. Text written on the back of the framing includes a date of 1951.
The painting is behind glass and surrounded by a brown, molded frame.Type of Painting
On paperContext
These buildings, part of the Waldorf-Castoria and Drake grouping on the edge of the Ox-Bow lagoon, were torn down in 1969. The foundation of the chimney remains near the fire pit. The Drake studio is the building with the double doors depicted on the right half of the painting. The Waldorf-Castoria (which was immediately north of the Drake) is hidden by a tree so only the brown rooftop is visible.Collection
