"A.R.T." was a juried, outdoor sculpture exhibit in downtown Saugatuck and Douglas. The first event was held in 2000. The art was displayed for a year.
Many of the outdoor public sculptures seen today like "Sunning Bear" at Wicks Park, "Not Sevens" at Saugatuck High School, "Family of Man" at Coghlin Park, "Cyclists" in the Mize Rose Garden, "Almost Eagles" at Douglas City Hall, "Puppy Dog Tales" at the library, "Girl with Puppet" at the Saugatuck Village Square and "Inverted Arch" at Wade's Bayou came to town as part of A.R.T..
In the late 2000s, internal divisions and complaints about the art selections, like "Who is in charge here?" situated by Saugatuck City Hall, heralded the end of the shows.
Art 'Round Town was a Michigan Domestic Non-Profit Corporation headed by Gayle Lipsig of 673 Lake Street, Saugatuck, MI 49453. Many local galleries, civic organizations and non-profits worked together to pull of the shows.
The shows were generally believed to boost the area's credentials as an "art town."Collection
