Menier’s Fish Shop original site: Cook Dock, Butler Street at Culver Street collection: Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society Collection Captain Fred Menier was a Saugatuck fisherman who operated a Mackinac-type sailing boat with steam engine power. He opened a fish shop along the Saugatuck docks in 1894—selling “fresh fish every day.” The Menier family lived at 711 Butler Street. Menier was killed in a boating accident.
