Two black-ink and blue-wash illustrations on Strathmore paper by Nat Steinberg. The print-production drawings are signed "NPS" in the lower right corner. Context

These renderings were produced when Steinberg worked in Chicago as a newspaper illustrator/staff artist. The drawing were made on irregularly-cut pieces of heavy paper — rather than illustration board — and are dotted with white correction paint, indicating they were produced quickly to meet a looming deadline. Specifically, these cartoons added visual interest to the Dear Abby advice column that was syndicated in 1956 and offered practical advice for domestic problems.
